Our Process

Creating a brand identity requires strategic thinking, collaboration, and creative execution. The number of steps that a brand design company counts as part of the process of building a brand identity isn’t as important as having a defined process that covers how they achieve (and reproduce) results for their clients.

At Temper, our process is tailored to fit each project but involves the same basic approach to brand design.

Brand Strategy Development

In the first phase of our brand design process, we immerse ourselves in your environment and learn as much as we can to inform our decisions along the way. We’ll work with you to understand how your brand story, company, aesthetic, and audience can combine to achieve your desired brand positioning. We also independently research your audience, industry, and competitors to identify commonalities and differences that could inspire potential solutions or opportunities for differentiation. We keep our minds open to as much information as possible. Nothing is off limits.

This typically takes about 1-2 weeks and can involve or include:

  • A questionnaire to gather detailed information
  • At least a couple meetings for some deep Q&A or clarification on findings
  • Customer/personnel interviews or surveys, site visits, where/when applicable

Interpret

Interpret

In this phase we narrow our focus. Part of this step requires time and space to absorb information and develop ideas. Based on everything we learn during our research, we determine creative and technical approaches for expressing your brand image. This means gathering references that communicate that expression, and sketching prototypes for possible concepts. The ideas are rough, but when this phase is complete, the brand direction is defined.

This typically takes about 1-2 weeks and can involve or include:

  • Documentation that verbally defines possible concepts or directions
  • Collaboration on a mood/inspiration board for visual style and tonality
  • Site architecture, content strategy, where/when applicable

With a clear concept in mind, we begin crafting and/or prototyping your brand design system. This means testing the system as we apply it to the deliverables we plan to build. Our creative process allows for up to two rounds of revisions to ensure everything we design fits your aesthetic and our defined brand strategy.

This typically takes about 3-5 weeks and can involve or include:

  • Up to two rounds of visual presentations
  • Mockups, wireframes, prototypes, where/when applicable

The last phase involves fine-tuning deliverables and implementing your brand identity system. Think final file handoffs, website launches, store openings, and product releases. Depending on your needs, we remain available after delivery or launch to make sure everything meets your expectations and that you have the support to continue growing your brand.
